Savannah arts academy was established in 1999 as a Specialty school and is part of the Savannah-Chatham county public school system. Enrollment is based on specific academic criterion, as well as a successful audition in the desired major.
Just a quick note that District Honor Band/All-State 1st Round Results have not been released. As soon as they have been, information will be forwarded to students (by Remind/Google Classroom) and parents (by email).
Thank you for your patience The Garrison Youth Ensembles will perform their first concert in the new Yamacraw Center for the Performing Arts this Thursday, November 9th at 7pm.
Tickets are $5 for adults and free to students/children. The SAA Wind Ensemble will also be performing as a guest on this program. Come out and see the great new performing space at Garrison as well as support our area music students! Parents,
Please join us this Friday at 7pm for our Jazz Band Concert in the John A. Varnedoe auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults. All students/kids get in free.
This Saturday, October 21st from 9am-1pm, help is being requested in the band room with the construction and installation of some custom, portable storage in our equipment storage room. This will take place during the PTSA Beautification event.

I hope you were all able to avoid the worst of Hurricane Irma (and it’s related traffic/logistical excitement). Just wanted to give you all some information about upcoming activities/changes to our schedule. If you have not been receiving the Charms Emails, please email me ASAP and I will get you registration information! Sunday 9/17 - The Skyelite Jazz band will NOT be performing for the opening of the jazz festival due to a number of our students/families unavailability to return to Savannah in time. Monday 9/18 - Members of the instrument ensemble and adv band classes (Symphonic Band) will have a mandatory after school practice from 3:00pm - 5:00pm on Monday. PLEASE NOTE THE TIME CHANGE! Students who do not have prior approval for missing the rehearsal will NOT be able to perform in Thursday's concert, or future concerts per director approval. Tuesday 9/19 - Band Tutorials are available until 5pm. Students who need help with practicing/etudes/music can stay after school.
Thursday 9/21 - Band Concert @ 7pm in the SAA Auditorium. Adults $5 admission; students and children get in for free. We will be in formal concert attire; please email me if you have any questions/concerns. Friday 9/22 - Jazz Bassist and Singer Katie Thiroux will be visiting the school and giving a special workshop with jazz band students beginning at 9:30am.
